Mark and I went to Greenland this Aussie Winter (for their Summer) to work. We went at different times, but met up in the middle. Mark worked as an ice driller and I as the field doctor (I am writing this before I go into the field). We had a holiday together in Ilulisat, a lovely ideal Greenlandic township, in between flying in and out of Kangerlussauq, basically a US airforce base and commercial airport city.
Kangerlussauq - I'm pointing out our living quarters and NEEM base (NEEM is an acronym for the ice core drilling project).
Ilulisat.
Mark enjoyed watching the ice bergs from a distance......
Whereas I preferred to get 'up close and personal'.
Mark and I went on a midnight ice berg cruise to Jacobshaven Fiord. Beautiful shine shine for 24 hours. The sun dips just under the skyline around 2400. As you can see it's pretty cold on the water. On land we're enjoying up to 20 degree temperatures! Hello Artic Summer!!!
